Locate the alternator. It is usually mounted on the front of the engine, near the top.
Identify the tensioner pulley. It is a small pulley with a spring-loaded arm that presses against the alternator belt.
Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt. This will release the tension on the belt, allowing you to remove it.
Remove the alternator belt. Be careful not to drop it into the engine compartment.
Release the alternator mounting bolts. There are usually two or three bolts that hold the alternator in place.
Remove the alternator from the vehicle. Be careful not to damage any of the electrical connections.
To reinstall the alternator, reverse the steps above. Be sure to tighten the tensioner pulley bolt to the specified torque.
