1. Make sure the engine is off and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Locate the diagnostic link connector (DLC) under the dashboard, usually near the driver's side footwell.
3. Connect a scan tool or code reader to the DLC.
4. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
5. Select the "Reset ECU" or "Clear Codes" option on the scan tool.
6. Follow the prompts on the scan tool to confirm the reset.
7. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the scan tool.
8. Start the engine and check if the service engine light has been reset.
If you don't have access to a scan tool or code reader, you can also try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a few minutes and then reconnecting it. This may also reset the service engine light, but it's not as reliable as using a scan tool.
If the service engine light remains on after following these steps, there may be an underlying issue with your vehicle that needs to be addressed. It's recommended to have your vehicle diagnosed by a qualified mechanic to determine the cause of the light and have it repaired if necessary.
