1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, and engage the parking brake.
2. Open the hood.
3. Locate the alternator belt. It is the long belt that runs between the alternator and the power steering pump.
4. Loosen the alternator belt tensioner. The tensioner is a metal arm with a spring-loaded pulley. To loosen the tensioner, use a wrench to turn the tensioner bolt counterclockwise.
5. Remove the alternator belt. Once the tensioner is loose, you can remove the belt by slipping it off the pulleys.
6. Inspect the old alternator belt for cracks, wear, or fraying. If the belt is damaged, replace it with a new one.
7. Install the new alternator belt. To install the new belt, simply slip it over the pulleys and tighten the alternator belt tensioner.
8. Check the alternator belt tension. The belt should be snug, but not too tight. You should be able to depress the belt about 1/2 inch (13 mm) with moderate pressure.
9. Close the hood.
