Materials Needed:
-New oil filter (Motorcraft FL-1A, or equivalent)
-New oil (5W-30, 4.5 quarts)
-Oil drain pan
-Funnel
-Wrench
-Rags
-Jack stands (optional)
Procedure:
1. Park your vehicle on a level surface. If possible, use jack stands to raise the front of the vehicle for better access to the oil pan.
2. Locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan. It is usually a 17mm bolt.
3. Place the oil drain pan under the drain plug.
4. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil drain plug. Be careful, as the oil may be hot.
5. Allow the old oil to drain completely into the oil drain pan. This may take a few minutes.
6. While the oil is draining, locate the oil filter. It is usually near the top of the engine, near the front.
7. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Be careful, as there may be some residual oil inside the filter.
8. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
9. Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is snug. Do not overtighten the oil filter.
10. Replace the oil drain plug. Tighten the plug until it is snug.
11. Use the funnel to add 4.5 quarts of new oil to the engine.
12. Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
14. Turn off the engine and check for any leaks from the oil drain plug or oil filter.
15. Properly dispose of the old oil and filter according to local regulations.
That's it! You have now successfully changed the oil on your 1995 Ford Ranger 2.3L.
