Procedure:
1. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels. Do not remove the lug nuts at this time.
2. Raise the front of the Bronco until the front wheels are off the ground. Then remove the lug nuts and remove the front wheels.
3. Remove the cotter pin from the castle nut on the steering linkage. Then loosen the castle nut but do not remove it.
4. Using a Pitman arm puller, remove the Pitman arm from the steering box.
5. Mark the relationship between the steering box input shaft and the steering column intermediate shaft. Then carefully remove the four bolts holding the steering box to the frame. Lift the steering box out.
To install a new steering box, follow these steps in reverse order. Be sure to align the steering box input shaft with the steering column intermediate shaft before tightening the four bolts holding the steering box to the frame.
Additional Tips:
- The steering box is heavy so it is a good idea to have a helper when removing it.
- Be careful not to damage the steering column intermediate shaft when removing the steering box.
