How do you bleed a Dodge ABS pump unit to eliminate soft brake pedal feel?

Assistant

Here is a step-by-step guide to bleeding a Dodge ABS pump unit:

Tools and materials needed:

• A brake bleeder kit

• A container of DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid

• A wrench

• A towel

Instructions:

Step 1: Fill the brake fluid reservoir.

Before starting the bleeding procedure, ensure the brake fluid reservoir is full to the “MAX” line.

Step 2: Connect the brake bleeder kit.

Attach the brake bleeder kit to the bleeder screw on the ABS pump.

Step 3: Open the bleeder screw.

Use the wrench to loosen the bleeder screw about a half turn.

Step 4: Start the brake bleeding procedure.

Have a helper slowly press down on the brake pedal until it is fully depressed. Hold it there for about 30 seconds.

Step 5: Close the bleeder screw.

While your helper is holding the brake pedal down, close the bleeder screw tightly.

Step 6: Release the brake pedal.

Ask your helper to release the brake pedal slowly.

Step 7: Repeat steps 4-6 until the brake fluid runs clear and the brake pedal feels firm.

Continue bleeding the brakes until the pedal feels firm and you no longer see air bubbles in the brake fluid.

Step 8: Close the bleeder screw and top up the brake fluid reservoir.

Finally, close the bleeder screw and top up the brake fluid reservoir to the “MAX” line.

Note:

It is important to ensure there is no air in the brake lines when bleeding the ABS pump. Air can cause a spongy brake pedal and reduced braking performance.
