Function
When the throttle valve is closed, the TPS sends a signal to the engine control unit (ECU) that the throttle is closed. This signal causes the ECU to reduce fuel injection and ignition timing. When the throttle valve is opened, the TPS sends a signal to the ECU that the throttle is open. This signal causes the ECU to increase fuel injection and ignition timing.
Location
The TPS is located on the throttle body. It is usually mounted on a bracket that is attached to the throttle body.
Replacement
The TPS can be replaced by removing the bolts that hold it to the throttle body and disconnecting the electrical connector. When replacing the TPS, it is important to use a part that is designed for your specific vehicle.
Troubleshooting
A faulty TPS can cause a number of problems, including:
