1997-2003; 5.4L, SOHC, Triton V8: The fuel filter is located on the passenger side (opposite side from engine), mounted to frame below and behind fuel tank.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Using the correct size flare nut wrenched, loosen the fuel line fittings at both ends of fuel filter.
3. Remove filter from bracket.
4. Remove and discard the old O-rings from fuel line fitting ends of filter.
5. Apply a thin film of clean engine oil to new O-rings.
6. Install new fuel filter into the mounting bracket.
7. Reconnect the fuel lines and tighten the flare nut fittings (do not overtighten).
8. Attach the inlet and outlet fuel hoses to the fuel filter.
9. Reconnect negative battery cable.
10. Start engine and check filter and all connections for leaks.
