1. Locate the pilot light assembly on your gas heater. It is usually a small metal tube with a flame coming out of it.
2. Turn off the gas supply to the heater. This is usually done by turning a valve near the gas meter.
3. Wait for the pilot light to go out. (If the pilot light does not go out after a few minutes, you may need to call a qualified technician.)
4. Clean the pilot light assembly. Use a soft brush to remove any dust or dirt that may have accumulated on the assembly.
5. Inspect the thermocouple. The thermocouple is a small metal rod that is located near the pilot light. It is responsible for sensing the presence of a flame and shutting off the gas supply if the flame goes out.
6. Relight the pilot light. To do this, hold a match or lighter near the pilot light assembly and turn on the gas supply. The pilot light should ignite immediately.
7. If the pilot light does not ignite, repeat steps 4-6.
8. Once the pilot light is lit, turn on the heater.
