Start engine but shift lever would not move?

There are a few possible reasons why the shift lever would not move after starting the engine:

1. Gear selector position: Ensure that the gear selector is in the "Park" position before attempting to move the shift lever.

2. Brake pedal: Make sure that the brake pedal is fully depressed before trying to move the shift lever. Some vehicles have a safety mechanism that prevents the shift lever from moving if the brake pedal is not depressed.

3. Shift lock solenoid: The shift lock solenoid is an electronic device that prevents the shift lever from being moved out of the "Park" position without the ignition key being turned on and the brake pedal being depressed. If the shift lock solenoid is faulty, it may prevent the shift lever from moving even if all other conditions are met.

4. Mechanical linkage issue: There could be a problem with the mechanical linkage that connects the shift lever to the transmission. This could include a broken or disconnected cable, a seized pivot point, or a damaged gear selector.

If none of these simple solutions resolve the issue, it is recommended to consult with a qualified mechanic or visit a reputable auto repair shop for further diagnosis and repair.
