The most common gear shift pattern for a nine-speed semi truck is the "H" pattern. This pattern is set up in a grid of three columns and three rows, with "R" for reverse at the top left corner and "1" for first gear at the bottom right. The remaining slots are filled in with the other gear numbers, with "4", "5", and "6" in a horizontal line in the middle of the grid.
