What other fuels are used in the same way as fossil fuels?

There is one other common fuel that is widely used in the same manner as fossil fuels, and that is nuclear fuel. Nuclear fuel, such as uranium, undergoes a process called nuclear fission, in which the nuclei of atoms are split apart, releasing a large amount of energy. This energy can be used to generate electricity or power submarines and ships.
