1. Park the car on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Chock the front wheels to prevent the car from rolling.
3. Jack up the rear of the car and support it safely with jack stands.
4. Remove the hubcap (if equipped).
5. Remove the cotter pin from the castle nut on the rear wheel axle.
6. Loosen the castle nut (but do not remove it completely).
7. Spray penetrating oil around the edge of the brake drum where it meets the axle hub.
8. Allow the penetrating oil to sit for a few minutes.
9. Using a lug wrench, turn the castle nut counterclockwise to remove it.
10. Remove the wheel.
11. Use a pry bar to carefully pry the brake drum off of the axle hub.
12. Inspect the brake drum for any damage or excessive wear. If the brake drum is damaged or worn, replace it before proceeding.
13. Clean the axle hub and the inside of the brake drum with a wire brush.
14. Apply a thin coat of anti-seize grease to the axle hub.
15. Position the brake drum on the axle hub and reinstall the castle nut.
16. Tighten the castle nut until it is snug, then insert a new cotter pin to secure it.
17. Reinstall the wheel and hubcap (if equipped).
18. Lower the car off of the jack stands.
19. Test the brakes to make sure they are working properly.
