1. Park the car on level ground and turn off the engine.
2. Wait a few minutes to allow the oil to settle down.
3. Open the hood of the car.
4. Locate the oil dipstick. It is usually a yellow or orange plastic stick with a handle on the end.
5. Pull the dipstick out of the oil dipstick tube and wipe it clean with a paper towel.
6. Reinsert the dipstick into the tube until it is fully seated.
7. Pull the dipstick out again and check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "min" and "max" marks on the dipstick.
8. If the oil level is low, add oil to the engine. Use the type of oil specified in your car's owner's manual.
9. Reinsert the dipstick and check the oil level again.
10. Once the oil level is correct, close the hood of the car.
