How to Change the Head Gasket on a Renault Megane Scenic 1.9 Diesel

Important: Before beginning, make sure that you have the following tools and materials:

- New head gasket

- Head bolt kit

- Head gasket sealant

- Wrench set

- Socket set

- Screwdriver set

- Pliers

- Hammer

- Oil pan

- Coolant

- Antifreeze

- Gloves

- Safety glasses

Instructions:

Step 1: Disconnect the battery.

- Locate the battery in your Renault Megane Scenic.

- Use a wrench to loosen and remove the negative terminal cable from the battery.

Step 2: Drain the coolant.

- Locate the coolant drain plug on your Scenic.

- Place an oil pan under the drain plug and loosen the plug with a wrench to allow the coolant to drain.

- Close the drain plug once the coolant has completely drained.

Step 3: Remove the air filter housing.

- Locate the air filter housing on your Scenic.

- Loosen and remove the bolts holding the air filter housing in place.

- Remove the housing from the engine compartment.

Step 4: Remove the upper timing belt cover.

- Locate the upper timing belt cover on your Scenic.

- Loosen and remove the bolts holding the cover in place.

- Remove the cover from the engine compartment.

Step 5: Remove the camshaft cover.

- Locate the camshaft cover on your Scenic.

- Loosen and remove the bolts holding the cover in place.

- Remove the cover from the engine compartment.

Step 6: Remove the camshaft.

- Locate the camshaft on your Scenic.

- Use a wrench to loosen and remove the camshaft bolt.

- Remove the camshaft from the engine.

Step 7: Remove the head gasket.

- Use a scraper to carefully remove the old head gasket from the engine block and the cylinder head. Make sure to clean all the surfaces of the gasket.

Step 8: Install the new head gasket.

- Place the new head gasket on the cylinder head, ensuring that the gasket is seated properly.

- Use a sealant around the edges of the gasket

Step 9: Install the camshaft and cover.

- Place the camshaft back in the engine and secure it with the camshaft bolt.

- Replace the camshaft cover and bolts.

Step 10: Install the upper timing belt cover.

- Replace the upper timing belt cover and bolts.

Step 11: Install the air filter housing.

- Place the air filter housing back in the engine compartment and secure it with the bolts.

Step 12: Refill the coolant.

- Refill the coolant reservoir with coolant and antifreeze.

Step 13: Reconnect the battery.

- Reconnect the negative terminal cable to the battery.

Step 14: Test the engine.

- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

- Check for any leaks and ensure the engine is running smoothly.

Note: It is important to ensure that all bolts are tightened to the manufacturer's specified torque settings during this process. Failure to do so may result in damage to the engine or other components.
