Tools Needed:
- Jack and jack stands
- Drain pan
- Socket set
- Extension bars
- Torque wrench
1. Safely lift and support your Fiat Palio using jack stands. Always engage the parking brake and chock the wheels before lifting the vehicle.
2. Drain the transmission fluid. Place a drain pan under the transmission drain plug and remove the plug using a suitable wrench. Allow all of the fluid to drain into the pan.
3. Detach all of the electrical connectors around the gearbox. Make sure to note the location and orientation of each connector so that you can reconnect them correctly later.
4. Disconnect the gearshift linkage or cable. This may require removing the center console or other trim pieces to access the linkage.
5. Unbolt the driveshaft(s) from the transmission. There might be one or two driveshafts depending on your vehicle's configuration. You may need to use an appropriate socket with an extension bar to reach these bolts.
6. Support the transmission with a transmission jack or other suitable means to prevent it from dropping.
7. Remove the bell housing bolts that connect the transmission to the engine. These are typically situated around the perimeter of the bell housing.
8. Carefully separate the transmission from the engine. Be mindful of any remaining connections or components that may interfere with the separation.
9. Once the transmission is removed, inspect the clutch and flywheel for wear, damage, or fluid contamination. These parts may need to be replaced if they are worn or damaged.
10. Clean and inspect the transmission housing, input shaft, and output shaft for any damage. If necessary, repair or replace any faulty components.
11. Reassembly is essentially the reverse order of disassembly. Install the transmission back on the engine, reconnect all of the components, and fill it with the recommended transmission fluid.
