Tools and materials needed:
- New oil pressure switch
- Oil filter wrench
- Wrench
- Screwdriver
- Oil drain pan
- Engine degreaser
- Rags
- Funnel
- New engine oil (check your owner's manual for the correct oil type and amount)
1. Park your car on a level surface, and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down if it has been running recently.
2. Locate the oil pressure switch. On the 1996 Audi A4, it is usually found on the front side of the engine block, near the top of the oil filter housing.
3. Clean the area around the oil pressure switch. This will help prevent any dirt or debris from entering the engine.
4. Use the oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Allow the oil to drain into the oil drain pan.
5. Once the oil has drained, use the wrench to loosen the oil pressure switch. Be careful not to drop the oil pressure switch into the oil pan.
6. Remove the old oil pressure switch and install the new one. Hand-tighten the oil pressure switch until it is snug, then use the wrench to tighten it to the specified torque (usually 18-22 ft-lbs).
7. Replace the oil filter and gasket.
8. Fill the engine with new engine oil. Use the funnel to add the oil slowly and carefully.
9. Start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine and help to ensure that there are no leaks.
10. Check the oil level using the dipstick. Add more oil if necessary to bring the level up to the "full" mark.
