* Open the hood of your car.
* Locate the engine cover. It is usually made of plastic and is located on top of the engine.
* Remove the engine cover by unclipping it or removing the bolts that hold it in place.
Step 2: Remove the timing belt cover.
* Locate the timing belt cover. It is usually made of metal or plastic and is located at the front of the engine.
* Remove the timing belt cover by removing the bolts that hold it in place.
Step 3: Set the crankshaft at TDC.
* Rotate the crankshaft until the piston in cylinder number one is at the top of its compression stroke.
* You can do this by inserting a long screwdriver into the spark plug hole of cylinder number one and watching for it to rise and fall.
* When the piston reaches the top of its compression stroke, the screwdriver will rise to its highest point.
Step 4: Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt.
* Locate the tensioner pulley. It is usually located on the front of the engine, near the top.
* Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt slightly.
Step 5: Remove the timing belt.
* Slide the timing belt off of the crankshaft pulley, the camshaft pulley, and the idler pulley.
Step 6: Install the new timing belt.
* Slide the new timing belt onto the crankshaft pulley, the camshaft pulley, and the idler pulley.
* Make sure that the belt is properly seated on all of the pulleys.
* Tighten the tensioner pulley bolt until the timing belt is properly tensioned.
Step 7: Verify the timing.
* Rotate the crankshaft two full turns clockwise.
* Check to see that the piston in cylinder number one is still at the top of its compression stroke.
* If it is not, then the timing belt is not properly installed and you will need to repeat steps 3-6.
Step 8: Reinstall the timing belt cover.
* Reinstall the timing belt cover by replacing the bolts that you removed in step 2.
Step 9: Reinstall the engine cover.
* Reinstall the engine cover by reversing the procedure that you used to remove it in step 1.
