1. Make sure that you have addressed the issue(s) that caused the check engine light to come on in the first place.
2. Start your Tacoma but don't drive it.
3. Find your OBD-II port, which is usually located under the dashboard on the driver's side.
4. Connect an OBD-II scanner to the port.
5. Turn the key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
6. Select the option to read and clear diagnostic trouble codes.
7. Follow the prompts on the scanner to clear the codes.
8. Turn the key to the "OFF" position and disconnect the scanner.
9. Start your Tacoma and check to make sure that the check engine light is off.
