1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake.
2. Open the trunk.
3. Locate the tail light assembly. It is located in the rear of the car, on the side that you need to replace the bulb.
4. Remove the two screws that hold the tail light assembly in place. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to do this.
5. Pull the tail light assembly straight out of the car. Be careful not to drop it.
6. Locate the bulb that needs to be replaced. The tail light assembly contains multiple bulbs, so you may need to remove more than one cover to find the bulb that needs to be replaced.
7. Press down on the bulb and turn it counterclockwise to remove it.
8. Install the new bulb. Push it into the socket and turn it clockwise to lock it in place.
9. Put the tail light assembly back in place and secure it with the two screws.
10. Close the trunk.
That's it! You have now successfully replaced a tail light bulb on your 2000 VW Beetle.
