Tools and Materials Needed:
- Phillips screwdriver
- Flat-headed screwdriver
- Trim removal tool (optional)
Instructions:
1. Remove Door Trim:
- Begin by winding down the window as much as possible to provide better access.
- There are two Phillips head screws located at the bottom of the door trim, remove them.
- Gently pry up the plastic cover on the door handle (usually held in place by plastic tabs) to reveal another Phillips head screw; remove this screw as well.
- Use a trim removal tool (or a flat-headed screwdriver) to carefully pry up the edges of the door trim panel, starting from the bottom. Work your way up, releasing the plastic snap clips that hold the panel in place. Be careful not to damage the panel or the clips.
- Once all the clips are released, gently lift the door trim panel upwards and off the door. Set the trim panel aside in a safe place.
2. Locate Regulator Bolts:
- With the door trim panel removed, you will have easy access to the inside of the door. Locate the electric window regulator. Depending on the specific year and trim level of your Golf, the design of the regulator and its mounting bolts may vary slightly.
3. Remove Regulator Mounting Bolts:
- You may need to remove a few additional bolts and/or screws to access the regulator mounting bolts. These are usually located near the outer edges of the door frame.
- Once the mounting bolts are exposed, use a ratchet or wrench to loosen and remove them.
4. Disconnect Electrical Connections:
- Disconnect any electrical connectors attached to the window regulator. These connectors are usually located near the regulator motor. Be cautious not to damage the wiring.
5. Remove Regulator Assembly:
- Once all the bolts are removed and electrical connections are disconnected, you should be able to lift the electric window regulator assembly out of the door. Be mindful of any cables or wires still attached.
6. Reassemble:
- To reinstall the electric window regulator, simply slide the new or repaired unit into place and secure it with the mounting bolts. Reconnect any electrical connectors and replace the door trim panel by snapping it back into place. Fasten the screws you removed earlier.
