1. Check the battery connection: Make sure the battery is securely connected and the terminals are clean and free from corrosion.
2. Reset the immobilizer:
- For models equipped with a separate immobilizer key or transponder (usually a small black key), insert it into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position, as if you were starting the car.
- Leave it in this position for about 15 seconds, then turn it back to the "OFF" position.
- Remove the key and try to start the car with your regular key.
3. Wait and Retry:
- For some VW models, immobilizer errors may resolve on their own after waiting. Try reconnecting the battery and waiting for about 30 minutes before attempting to start the car.
4. Use spare key:
- If you have a spare key for the car, try using that one instead of the primary key.
5. Reset using the remote:
- For models with an immobilizer function built into the remote key fob, try pressing and holding the lock button on the remote for about 15 seconds. Then release the button and quickly press it three times. This may initiate a reset.
If none of these methods work, it's recommended to have your car towed to a VW dealer or a reputable auto repair shop that can diagnose and resolve the issue with the immobilizer system.
