How many pedestrians are killed by car accidents a year?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 270,000 pedestrians are killed in car accidents worldwide each year. It is estimated that pedestrians account for 22% of all traffic-related deaths. The majority of pedestrian fatalities occur in low- and middle-income countries, where infrastructure and traffic safety regulations may be less developed.
