* Criminal charges. Filing a false police report is a crime in most jurisdictions. You could be charged with a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the value of the car and the intent with which you filed the report.
* Civil liability. The rightful owner of the car could sue you for damages, including the cost of repairing or replacing the car, as well as any inconvenience or emotional distress you caused them.
* Loss of credibility. Filing a false police report could damage your reputation and make it difficult for you to obtain a job, a loan, or a driver's license in the future.
Reporting a car stolen when it is not is no joke. Don't do it for any reason because the consequences could be very serious.
