What are the materials used to make car Braking system?

Materials used to make Car Braking System -

a) Rotors/Discs :

Cast Iron - Commonly used

Carbon Ceramics - High performance

b) Caliper Body :

Aluminium- Lightweight durable material

c) Brake shoes/Pad-

1. Friction Material:

a) Organic - General purpose (Combination of synthetic polymers)

b) Semi-metallic - Provide more breaking forces. (Copper fibers, Iron,Graphite.)

c) Ceramic -High temp resistance, reduce wear in heavy-duty scenarios. (Fiber glass, Ceramic fibers..)

2. Backing and insulation layer.

d) Brake calipers: Mainly Made if Cast aluminum alloy or Stainless steel alloy or Composite (ceramics with steel). (High Temperature resistance , low heat conductivity & wear resistant)

e) Hydraulic brake hose: Rubber hose reinforced by nylon webbing
