How do you check the transaxle fluid in a 1978 Porsche?
To check the transaxle fluid in a 1978 Porsche you need to lift up the front of the vehicle so both front wheels are off the ground and then take out the 17 mm drain plug to see how much fluid comes out. For checking the fluid cold the level should be halfway up the filler hole when the fluid starts to come out the 17 mm drain plug. If it is overfilled fluid will come out of the vent in the bell housing. To check the fluid hot run the engine but never let the oil temperature reach 212 degrees F. While hot it should reach the bottom of the filler hole when it runs out of the 17 mm fill hole.
