* A timing light
* A 10mm wrench
* A flat-head screwdriver
NOTE: Ensure the engine is cool to the touch before attempting this job. Adjusting timing can be dangerous, so if this is your first time doing it, be aware that this adjustment takes place with the engine running
1. Loosen the distributor hold down bolt using the 10mm wrench.
2. Turn the engine over until the timing mark on the harmonic balancer is aligned with the 0-degree mark on the timing tab.
3. Attach the timing light to the number one spark plug wire.
4. Aim the timing light at the timing tab on the front cover.
5. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
6. Using the flat head screwdriver, turn the distributor housing clockwise or counterclockwise until the timing mark on the harmonic balancer is aligned with the desired timing mark on the timing tab. Typically this is "0"
7. Tighten the distributor hold down bolt and re-check the timing.
