It was a four-wheeled vehicle with a gasoline engine and two seats. It was designed by Henry Ford and built in 1896 in a workshop behind his home in Detroit, Michigan.
The Ford Quadricycle had a two-cylinder, four-stroke engine with a displacement of 0.8 litres and an output of 4 horsepower. The engine was mounted at the rear of the vehicle and drove the rear wheels via a chain. The Quadricycle had a top speed of about 20 miles per hour (32 km/h).
The Ford Quadricycle was a success and helped to establish Ford as a leading automobile manufacturer. In 1903, Ford introduced the Model T, which would become the first mass-produced automobile in the world.
