1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake.
2. Open the trunk. There are two plastic release latches on either side of the trunk opening located on the inside. Pull the left one open and the right one should unlatch.
3. Locate the tail light assembly. The tail light assembly is located on the rear of the vehicle, on either side.
4. Remove the two bolts that hold the tail light assembly in place. Use a wrench or ratchet to loosen the bolts. You may need to use a flashlight to see the bolts more easily. If the bolts are rusty or corroded, spray them with a penetrating lubricant before attempting to remove them.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the tail light assembly. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight off the tail light assembly.
6. Remove the tail light assembly from the vehicle. Pull the tail light assembly straight out from the vehicle. Be careful not to drop the tail light assembly.
7. Transfer the light bulb from the old tail light assembly to the new tail light assembly. Be careful not break the bulb. Twist the bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the socket and then twist it clockwise to install the bulb in the new tail light assembly. If you are also replacing the light socket itself, use a flathead screwdriver to depress the tab on the side of the socket and pull it straight out. Push the new socket in place until it snaps in and then install the bulb.
8. Reinstall the tail light assembly in the vehicle. Insert the tail light assembly into the vehicle and push it until it snaps into place.
9. Replace the two bolts that hold the tail light assembly in place. Tighten the bolts with a wrench or ratchet. Check the screws in the new assembly and tighten them as needed.
10. Reconnect the electrical connector to the tail light assembly. Press the connector onto the tail light assembly until it clicks into place.
11. Close the trunk.
