1. Locate the timing marks. The timing marks on the camshaft and crankshaft are usually small notches or lines. The camshaft timing mark is located on the front of the engine, near the top of the cylinder head. The crankshaft timing mark is located on the front of the engine, near the bottom of the engine block.
2. Turn the crankshaft until the timing marks are aligned. Use a wrench to turn the crankshaft pulley bolt clockwise until the timing marks on the camshaft and crankshaft are aligned.
3. Check the alignment of the timing belt. The timing belt should be properly tensioned and aligned with the timing marks on the camshaft and crankshaft. If the timing belt is not properly aligned, it can cause engine damage.
4. Install the timing belt. If the timing belt is not properly aligned, you will need to install a new timing belt. Be sure to follow the instructions in the vehicle's owner's manual for installing a new timing belt.
5. Start the engine. Once the timing belt is properly aligned and installed, you can start the engine. The engine should run smoothly and without any unusual noises.
