1. Park your vehicle in a safe, well-lit area and turn off the engine. Allow the headlights to cool down if they have been on.
2. Open the hood of your Escape. To do this, locate the hood release lever inside the vehicle, typically near the driver's footwell. Pull the lever to release the hood, then lift the hood and secure it with the prop rod.
3. Locate the headlight assembly you need to replace. The Escape has separate headlight assemblies for the low beam and high beam headlights. The low beam headlight is located on the outer edge of the headlight assembly, while the high beam headlight is located on the inner edge.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the headlight assembly. To do this, simply press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight off.
5. Remove the three bolts that secure the headlight assembly to the vehicle. The bolts are located around the perimeter of the headlight assembly. Use a wrench to loosen and remove the bolts, then set them aside.
6. Carefully remove the headlight assembly from the vehicle. Be careful not to drop the headlight assembly.
7. Transfer the H1 bulb or HID bulb from the old housing into the new housing, as appropriate. Take care to align the tab inside the housing properly to hold the bulb securely in place.
8. Reinstall the headlight assembly by inserting it back into its original position and securing it with the three bolts you removed earlier. Tighten the bolts securely until they are snug.
9. Reconnect the electrical connector to the back of the headlight assembly by simply pushing it back into place until it clicks.
10. Close the hood of your Escape and you're done!
NOTE: If you are replacing the high beam headlight, you may need to remove the battery to access the headlight assembly.
