Materials Needed:
1. New rearview mirror (compatible with your car model)
2. Screwdriver (flathead and Phillips head)
3. New rubber base gasket (optional)
Steps to Replace the Rearview Mirror:
1. Locate Release Tabs:
- Slide into the driver's seat and look upwards towards the rearview mirror.
- You'll see a small gap between the mirror and the baseplate attached to the windshield.
- Within this gap, you'll find small plastic tabs (usually two of them).
2. Pry Open Release Tabs:
- Insert a flathead screwdriver into the gap and gently pry open one of the release tabs.
- Repeat the same process for the other release tab to disengage the rearview mirror from the windshield.
3. Remove Old Rearview Mirror:
- Once the release tabs are disengaged, you can detach the rearview mirror from the baseplate.
- Be careful not to drop the mirror.
4. Clean Baseplate:
- Use a clean cloth to remove any dirt or debris from the baseplate where the mirror was mounted.
5. Apply Rubber Gasket (Optional):
- Some new rearview mirrors come with a new rubber gasket.
- If there's an old rubber gasket on the baseplate, remove it and place the new one in its place.
6. Align New Rearview Mirror:
- Position the new rearview mirror onto the baseplate, aligning the mounting holes or slots with the corresponding ones on the baseplate.
7. Lock in Place:
- Push the rearview mirror into place and press down until you hear a "click" or feel that the mirror is securely fastened.
8. Secure Mounting Screws:
- Use the Phillips head screwdriver to tighten the mounting screws provided with the new mirror.
- Make sure the screws are snug but not over-tightened.
9. Adjust Position (If Necessary):
- Once the mirror is mounted, you can adjust its position by gently moving it to see the desired rearward view.
10. Test and Enjoy:
- Give your new rearview mirror a gentle shake to ensure it's securely attached.
- Adjust it to a comfortable viewing angle, and that's it!
