The ON position on your 1980 GS850 petcock is located just past the PRIME mark counter clockwise. Turn the petcock counter clockwise just past the PRIME mark and you will be in the ON position.
Changing the Petcock
If you need to replace the petcock on your 1980 GS850, follow these steps:
1. Drain the fuel tank by removing the drain plug at the bottom of the tank.
2. Remove the petcock from the fuel tank by unscrewing the mounting bolts.
3. Install a new petcock and mounting bolts.
4. Tighten the mounting bolts.
5. Refill the fuel tank.
Screwdriver Change
You can use a screwdriver to change the petcock position. Insert the blade of the screwdriver into the slot on the petcock knob. Turn the knob until it reaches the desired position.
Note: Always turn the petcock to the OFF position when not using the motorcycle. This will help to prevent fuel from leaking from the petcock.
