1. Gather your tools and materials. You will need:
* A new brake line
* A brake fluid reservoir
* Brake fluid
* A brake line wrench
* A flare nut wrench
* A tubing cutter
* Safety glasses
2. Prepare the bike. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. Disconnect the battery. Remove the front wheel.
3. Locate the old brake line. The brake line is the metal tube that runs from the brake master cylinder to the brake caliper. Follow this tube with your eyes and you should see two flare nuts.
4. Loosen the flare nuts. Use the flare nut wrench to loosen the two flare nuts that secure the brake line to the master cylinder and the caliper.
5. Cut the old brake line. Use the tubing cutter to cut the old brake line between the two flare nuts. Be careful not to cut too close to the flare nuts.
6. Install the new brake line. Place one end of the new brake line into one of the flare nuts. Tighten the flare nut with the flare nut wrench. Repeat this process for the other end of the brake line.
7. Fill the brake fluid reservoir. Remove the cap from the brake fluid reservoir and fill it with brake fluid. Be careful not to overfill the reservoir.
8. Bleed the brakes. Use a brake bleeder to bleed the brakes. This process involves pumping the brake lever or pedal and opening and closing the bleeder valve to remove air from the brake system.
9. Test the brakes. Once you have bled the brakes, test them by applying the brake lever or pedal. The brakes should feel firm and should not leak any brake fluid.
10. Reinstall the front wheel and battery. Reconnect the battery and reinstall the front wheel.
Tips:
* When you are cutting the old brake line, be sure to cut it at a slight angle. This will help to prevent the brake fluid from leaking.
* When you are installing the new brake line, be sure to tighten the flare nuts securely.
* When you are bleeding the brakes, be sure to do it slowly and carefully. This will help to prevent air from entering the brake system.
* If you have any questions about how to change the front brake line on your Sportster, consult your motorcycle's service manual or a qualified mechanic.
