Before you begin any electrical work, it is important to disconnect the battery to avoid any unintended sparking. To do this, simply loosen the negative (black) terminal bolt and remove the cable.
Step 2: Locate the ignition switch wires
Most key switches have four wires. The two black wires are for the ignition coil; the red and yellow wires are for the kill switch.
Identify the ignition coil connector. It is typically a black plastic connector with two wires.
Disconnect the ignition coil connector by pressing down on the release tab and pulling it apart.
Step 3: Connect the key switch wires
Connect the black wire from the key switch to one of the black wires from the ignition coil.
Connect the other black wire from the key switch to the other black wire from the ignition coil.
Connect the red wire from the key switch to the red wire from the ignition coil.
Connect the yellow wire from the key switch to the yellow wire from the ignition coil.
Step 4: Reconnect the battery
Reconnect the negative battery cable to the terminal bolt and tighten the bolt until it is snug.
Step 5: Test the key switch
Turn on the ignition by inserting the key and turning it. The engine should start. If it does not, check your connections to make sure they are correct.
Step 6: Install the key switch
Mount the key switch to your dirt bike using the provided hardware.
Optional: You can also add a lock ring to the key switch to prevent it from being stolen.
