Potholes 101

Picture this, you’re driving along on a warm spring day just enjoying the little things and … bang! You just hit a big pothole. You’re left wondering whether your alignment is now off or if there is other damage to your vehicle.

Obviously, the best thing you can do to mitigate damage from a pothole is to just avoid hitting it. Some tips to help you do this and to lessen any possible damage if you just cannot avoid hitting one are:

• Maintain a safe distance between your car and the one in front of you so it is easier to spot the pothole and slow down accordingly.
• Use caution when approaching puddles. Potholes may be hiding under the water.
• If the pothole is unavoidable, slow down and firmly grip the wheel before you hit the pothole to avoid losing control of your vehicle.
• Minimize the impact by ensuring your tires are inflated to the recommended level.
