If your F-150 has a MANUAL transmission:
1. Find the Clutch Pedal: The clutch pedal is the leftmost pedal in the vehicle.
2. Depressing the Clutch: Push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor. You should feel resistance at first, then it will go to the floor smoothly.
3. Shifting Gears: Once the clutch is fully depressed, you can shift gears using the gear stick.
4. Releasing the Clutch: Slowly release the clutch pedal while simultaneously pressing the accelerator. The speed at which you release the clutch will depend on the engine speed and the gear you're selecting. You'll feel a slight "bite" point where the engine starts to engage with the transmission; this is where you'll need to modulate the clutch and gas pedal smoothly to prevent stalling.
If your F-150 has an AUTOMATIC transmission:
There is no clutch pedal or clutch to operate. You only use the accelerator and brake pedals, and the gear selector.
If you are unfamiliar with driving a manual transmission vehicle, it's best to practice in a safe, open area, away from traffic, until you are comfortable with the process. Consider getting instruction from an experienced driver. Stalling the engine is a normal part of the learning process.
