You'll likely find it on the side of the throttle body, often near the linkage connecting the throttle cable to the throttle plate. It's usually a small screw with a slotted head. It might be somewhat hidden, so you may need a small flashlight and possibly some maneuvering to see it clearly.
Important Note: Before adjusting the idle speed screw, be sure to consult your owner's manual or a repair manual specific to your 1988 Mercury Tracer's engine.
