* Screw-on: Some knobs simply screw off. Try turning it counterclockwise to remove it. If it's stuck, apply penetrating lubricant and let it sit for a few minutes before trying again.
* Clip-on: This is more common. You'll likely see small clips or a retainer ring around the base of the knob. Gently use a flathead screwdriver or trim tool to pry up or release these clips. Work your way around the circumference of the knob, carefully releasing each clip. Apply slight upward pressure as you release the clips.
* Pull-off: In some rare cases, the knob might simply pull straight off, but this is less likely. Try pulling gently upward while simultaneously prying around the base.
4. Remove the shift knob: Once you've released any clips or unscrewed the knob, pull it straight up and off the shift lever.
5. Install the new shift knob: This is the reverse of removal. If it's a screw-on type, simply screw it on tightly. For clip-on types, align the knob with the shift lever and carefully push down until all the clips engage securely.
6. Reinstall the shift boot (if applicable): Carefully place the shift boot back over the base of the new shift knob and secure it.
