Make Driving Easier During the Back-to-School Rush

It’s not hard to tell the kids are back in school. The big yellow school buses and the extra traffic are a tip-off that we’re heading into a busier time of the year. With the advent of September comes roads filled with school buses, children walking to and from school and parents dropping off/picking up their children in school zones. By taking some basic precautions, you can make driving a little less stressful at this time of the year.

1. Allow extra time for travel during the morning so you don’t have to rush to your destination.
2. Reduce your speed. This is especially important in neighborhoods where you know children walk to and from school.
3. Obey School Zone speed limits.
4. Be alert when driving through crosswalks and remember to yield to pedestrians.
5. Always come to a complete stop for and do not pass school buses with red flashing lights and extended stop arms.
6. Maximize visibility by replacing worn wiper blades and repairing chipped or cracked windshields.
