Materials:
- Steering Wheel puller
- Flathead screwdriver
- Socket wrench
- 10mm socket
- 13mm socket
- Steering Wheel bolt
WARNING
Disconnect the negative terminal on your battery before beginning this procedure. Otherwise, the horn will honk when the center bolt of the wheel is removed.
1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. This is to prevent the airbag from deploying accidentally.
2. Remove the two bolts located on the back of the steering wheel. These bolts hold the airbag module in place.
3. Gently pry the airbag module out of the steering wheel. Be careful not to damage the airbag module.
4. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the airbag module.
5. Remove the center bolt of the steering wheel. This bolt is located in the center of the steering wheel.
6. Attach the steering wheel puller to the steering wheel. Center the puller against the shaft and tighten it until it's snug.
7. Turn the steering wheel puller clockwise until the steering wheel comes off.
- Continue turning the screw clockwise until the wheel comes off. If you are having difficulty removing the wheel, you may need to use a rubber mallet to gently tap it off.
8. Install the new steering wheel.
- To install the new steering wheel, simply reverse the steps above. Be sure to tighten the center bolt to the specified torque (35 ft-lb).
9. Reconnect the battery negative terminal.
- Tighten the 3 bolts that hold the steering wheel in place (10mm wrench)
- Attach the horn ground wire to the bottom left side of the steering wheel.
- Plug in the horn connector on the right hand side of the steering wheel.
- Press the wheel back in by hand until it will go on no further.
- Make sure the steering wheel is straight and put the two 13mm bolts back in the back cover.
- Replace the airbag and bolt.
- Re-connect the car battery.
