1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the front wheels and inner fenders.
4. Disconnect the tie rods from the rack and pinion.
5. Disconnect the high-pressure power steering lines from the rack and pinion.
6. Remove the bolts that hold the rack and pinion in place.
7. Remove the rack and pinion from the vehicle.
8. Install the new rack and pinion in the reverse order of removal.
9. Reconnect the tie rods, high-pressure power steering lines, and inner fenders.
10. Install the front wheels.
11. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
12. Start the engine and check the power steering fluid level.
Additional notes:
* When disconnecting the tie rods, it is important to count the number of turns that the tie rod ends are unscrewed from the rack and pinion. This will help you to reinstall the tie rods in the correct position.
* When reconnecting the high-pressure power steering lines, it is important to use a new set of crush washers. This will help to prevent leaks.
* After you have installed the new rack and pinion, it is important to bleed the power steering system. This will remove any air bubbles from the system and prevent the power steering pump from cavitating.
