Gather necessary tools:
- Phillips screwdriver
- Flat-head screwdriver
- T-25 Torx bit
- Electrical connector release tool
- Wiring harness connector
- Replacement lock motor (if necessary)
Disconnect battery:
1. Open the hood and locate the battery.
2. Remove the negative battery terminal cable using the wrench.
Remove the trunk liner:
1. Begin at one corner of the trunk liner and gently pry it away from the trunk with the flat-head screwdriver.
2. Continue removing trim clips all around the edges of the liner until it comes off completely.
Expose malfunctioning lock mechanism:
1. Locate the lock mechanism near the trunk latch.
2. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove any screws holding the lock mechanism in place.
Remove lock retaining bolts:
1. Use a T-25 Torx bit to remove the bolts securing the lock motor.
Remove wiring connector:
1. Disconnect electrical connectors from the lock actuator using an electrical connector release tool.
Check Lock Motor and Replace if Needed
1. Inspect the lock motor for damage or corrosion. If the motor appears faulty or damaged, replace it with a new unit.
Reinstallation:
1. Reconnect the wiring connector to the new or repaired lock motor.
2. Reinstall the lock into the trunk lid, securing it with the bolts you removed earlier.
3. Reattach the trunk lid liner, pressing firmly to snap the trim clips back into place.
4. Reconnect the battery negative cable.
Test the trunk lock by pressing the trunk release button on the key fob or inside the vehicle. If it's working correctly, the trunk should open smoothly.
