How do you remove the alternator from long upper mount bolt after nut is removed on a 2002 Cougar V six?

Here are the steps to remove the alternator from a 2002 Cougar V6 after removing the nut from the long upper mount bolt:

Tools Needed:

- Socket Set

- Wrench Set

- Pliers

- Pry Bar

1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. This will prevent any electrical shocks while working on the alternator.

2. Locate the alternator. It is usually mounted on the front of the engine, near the top.

3. Remove the serpentine belt. This is the belt that drives the alternator and other accessories such as the power steering pump and air conditioning compressor. To remove the belt, loosen the tensioner pulley bolt and then slide the belt off the pulleys.

4. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator. There are two connectors: one for the power supply and one for the field circuit.

5. Remove the long upper mount bolt. This is the bolt with a nut at the top and which supports the upper end of the alternator.

6. Gently pry the alternator towards you to release the tension on the lower mounting bolt.

Removal of Lower Bolts:

1. Remove the lower mounting bolts. There are two bolts: one on the front and one on the back of the alternator.

2. Remove the alternator. Once all of the bolts are removed, you can lift the alternator out of the engine compartment.

Installation:

To install the alternator, simply reverse the steps above. Make sure that all of the bolts are tightened securely and reconnect the negative battery terminal before driving the car.
