How do you remove the rear brake rotors on a 2003 Ford Explorer?

Tools Needed:

- Lug wrench

- Socket wrench

- 15 mm socket

- pry bar or large screwdriver

Instructions:

Remove the lug nuts and wheel from the rear of the Explorer.

Locate the two 15 mm caliper bolts on the back of the caliper (one towards the top of the caliper, the other at the bottom on the backside).

Use a socket wrench to remove the caliper bolts in a criss-cross pattern (loosen the top bolt, then the bottom one).

Using a pry bar or large screwdriver, slide it between the caliper and rotor and pry the caliper away from the rotor. If the caliper is stuck, you may need to tap the caliper with a rubber mallet to break it loose.

Once the caliper is removed, you will be able to remove the brake pads by pulling them out of the caliper bracket.

Clean the caliper bracket and rotor surface.

Insert new brake pads into the caliper bracket.

Reinstall the caliper, securing it with the 15 mm caliper bolts.

Repeat the above steps on the other rear rotor.

Reinstall the rear wheels and lug nuts.

Your brake pads are now changed!
