How do you change front brake pads on a 2000 I30 Infinity?

Tools and Materials Needed:

1. Jack and jack stands

2. Tire iron or socket wrench

3. C-clamp or brake caliper spreader

4. Flathead screwdriver

5. New brake pads

6. Brake grease

Instructions:

1. Safely lift your vehicle. Use a jack and jack stands to securely elevate the vehicle off the ground. Ensure the parking brake is engaged and the vehicle is in gear before lifting.

2. Remove the wheels. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels with a tire iron or socket wrench, then remove the lug nuts and take off the wheels.

3. Locate the brake caliper. It's the metal housing that contains the brake pads and the caliper piston.

4. Disengage the brake caliper. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry open the retaining clip on the caliper guide pins, then remove the pins and lift the caliper off the rotor. Be careful not to damage the brake lines.

5. Remove the old brake pads. There will be two brake pads on each side, one on the inside of the rotor and one on the outside. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry them out of the caliper bracket.

6. Inspect the rotor for wear. The rotor is the metal disc the brake pads press against to slow down the vehicle. If the rotor is severely scored or grooved, it may need to be replaced.

7. Apply brake grease to the new brake pads. Apply a thin layer of brake grease to the back of the new brake pads where they will contact the caliper piston and the caliper bracket.

8. Install the new brake pads. Slide the new brake pads into the caliper bracket, making sure they are properly seated.

9. Reattach the brake caliper. Align the caliper over the rotor and replace the caliper guide pins. Secure the pins by reinserting the retaining clips.

10. Test the brakes. Once the wheels are reinstalled and the vehicle is safely lowered, test the brakes to ensure they are functioning properly before driving.
