- Gather the necessary tools: wrench, oil filter, oil drain pan, funnel, and an oil filter removal tool (optional).
- Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brake and turn off the engine.
- Allow the engine to cool down.
- Place the oil drain pan beneath the oil filter, ensuring you have enough room to catch the old oil.
- If necessary, use an oil filter removal tool to loosen the oil filter.
- Unscrew the oil filter counterclockwise until it comes completely off.
- Wipe the filter mating surface on the engine block clean.
- Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
- Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is snug.
- Using the wrench, tighten the oil filter approximately one-quarter to one-half turn more. Do not overtighten the oil filter.
- Start the engine and check for any oil leaks.
- Let the engine run for a few minutes and then check the oil level. Add oil if necessary.
