How do you adjust the neutral safety switch on a 2005 Dodge Stratus?

To adjust the neutral safety switch on a 2005 Dodge Stratus, begin by turning off the engine and engaging the parking brake. Lift up the hood of your car and locate the neutral safety switch, which is usually situated beneath the steering column near the transmission linkage.

Once you have found the neutral safety switch, follow these steps to adjust it:

1. Check the nut/bolt holding the switch in place. If it is loose, tighten it until it is snug.

2. Turn the key in the ignition to the "On" position. If the starter engages, your adjustment is complete. If it does not engage, move on to the next step.

3. Pull the transmission linkage towards the front of your car while the key is in the "On" position. Hold it in this position.

4. Loosen the nut/bolt holding the neutral safety switch in place and reposition the switch so that it is closer to the transmission linkage. Be sure not to move it too much or the switch may not engage fully with the linkage when the transmission is in Park.

5. Tighten the nut/bolt and repeat steps 2 and 3 to test switch operation.

Continue repeating steps 4 and 5 until you find a position for the switch that allows it to engage fully with the transmission linkage in both the "Park" and "Neutral" positions, and that also causes the starter to disengage when the transmission is in any gear other than "Park".
