Step 1: Prepare the car.
Disconnect the battery. This will prevent any sparks from igniting the fuel or fumes in the engine compartment.
Remove all of the tools from the trunk of the car. This will make it easier to move the engine out of the car.
Remove the air filter housing. This will give you more room to work.
Drain the oil from the engine. This will make the engine lighter and easier to move.
Remove the transmission fluid pan. This will prevent transmission fluid from leaking out when you pull the engine out.
Remove the fuel lines. This will prevent fuel from leaking out when you pull the engine out.
Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels. This will make it easier to remove the wheels when you pull the engine out.
Step 2: Remove the engine mounts.
The engine mounts are located on the sides of the engine. They are attached to the car's frame with bolts.
Remove the bolts that attach the engine mounts to the car's frame.
Lift the engine up off of the mounts.
Remove the engine mounts from the engine.
Step 3: Remove the engine.
Attach a chain to the front of the engine.
Loop the chain around a sturdy object, such as a tree or a tow truck.
Tighten the chain until the engine is lifted up off of the ground.
Remove the wheels from the car.
Roll the car forward until the engine is completely out of the car.
Step 4: Clean up.
Clean up any oil or transmission fluid that has leaked out.
Reinstall the air filter housing.
Reconnect the battery.
Replace the lug nuts on the front wheels.
Start the car and let it run for a few minutes. This will allow the engine to circulate the new oil and transmission fluid.
