- New brake shoes
Instructions:
_1. Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down._
_2. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels. Do not remove the lug nuts completely._
_3. Jack up the rear of your car until the wheels are off the ground. Set the parking brake. Secure your Kia with jack stands._
_4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the rear wheels._
_5. Locate the brake shoes inside the brake drum. There are two brake shoes per wheel._
_6. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the brake shoe retaining springs off. Be careful not to damage the brake shoes._
_7. Once the brake shoe retaining springs are removed, you can take out the old brake shoes._
_8. Clean the brake drums with brake cleaner. Make sure to remove all dirt, grease, and brake dust._
_9. Install the new brake shoes. Make sure the brake shoes are properly seated in the brake drums._
_10. Reinstall the brake shoe retaining springs._
_11. Reinstall the rear wheels and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts until they are snug._
_12. Lower your Kia from the jack stands._
_13. Pump the brake pedal several times until you feel a firm pedal._
Note:_ You may need to bleed the brakes if you have spongy brakes after replacing the brake shoes. Consult a qualified mechanic if you are not comfortable bleeding the brakes yourself._
